Meet Our Helibike Guides

From our seasoned Helibike guides to this season’s newcomers, we have got the best guides in Aotearoa.

We may be biased when stating we have the best guides in New Zealand, but it’s fact. Let us explain why and introduce our helibike guides which you can expect on your day with Southern Lakes Helibike.

Our guides are all experienced bikers that know the mountains of Central Otago like the back of their hand. They’re all passionate about this region, mountain bikes and sharing their knowledge and assistance with guests.

Our Guides:

Doug

Doug has worked with Southern Lakes Heli Bike since the beginning and has been a major part of the overarching company The Alpine Group for 9 years.
He first started riding as a child, or in his words “for as many years as my age” and began racing with the kids in the neighbourhood.
Since then, he has been on an unimaginable number of guiding trips with bikes, hikes, fishing and more. For any regular person, you would lose count, but Doug never forgets his experiences and the guests along the way. A man of detail and dedication.

Hedley

Hedley’s love of bikes started as a child when he found an abandoned bike in a ditch. Once resurrected the bike became his access to freedom, exploration, and endless adventure. Since then, Hedley has raced and guided throughout the world.
He has been a guide with Southern Lakes Heli Bike for a little over a year now.

Dave

Dave is one accredited man!
Dave was introduced to mountain biking as a teenager, and it quickly became his unwavering passion for the past 25 years. In that time, he has also been a ski patroller and taught avalanche education, ski guiding and rope access. He is also a member of the Specialist Wanaka Canyon Search and Rescue Team. (So, you know you’re in safe hands). When Dave isn’t descending a mountain, he is with his family and exploring new places outdoors.

Pete

Although new to Southern Lakes Heli Bike, Pete is very experienced when it comes to guiding and mountain bikes.
Pete comes from a passion and life spent in the hills, canyoning, whitewater kayaking, tramping and of course mountain bike riding. Pete has worked all over New Zealand in the outdoor education sector and currently runs WORD in Wanaka, a youth mountain bike association created to give young people a sense of community in the outdoors and build skills on the trail.

Our guides are our best assets. They add customisation and uniqueness to every adventure, using their local knowledge of the region to create a day best suited to you and your riding abilities and desires.
